This edition of the annual cadet creative journal was a special issue in that it followed (by a year) the Spring 1975 Creative Writing Workshop, offered by the Department of English and Fine Arts.

A lot of the content came out of that workshop, including a one-act play that I wrote titled, “The Unveiling of Ourselves.”

This page includes two slideshows.

The first has all of the front matter to the issue, including the full Contents. The second is my contribution with the play and a final page of three short poems I submitted.

As a postscript, my criticism sheet for the play is included at the bottom.

In an effort to “help” my academic efforts, my mother, Mrs. Jo Stockdale, sent me a letter, possibly copied to my Air Officer Commanding (AOC) as “encouragement” to do whatever needed to be done for successful completion of my “academic probation” in a Physics course. Somehow, I don’t believe to my a priori knowledge, the letter found its way into the June 1974 cadet magazine, Talon.

Here’s the whole issue.

Colorado Springs Sun, 5 May 1974

The season finale against Notre Dame was played in South Bend, IN, on Thanksgiving Day and was broadcast nationally by ABC-TV. Keith Jackson called the play-by-play. After beating us fairly handily, their next game was the Sugar Bowl in the New Orleans at Tulane Stadium. They beat Alabama 24-23 and were recognized without much dispute as the college football national champions.

During my sophomore season on the football season, we played the University of Arizona in Tucson. My uncle and his family lived there at the time and I left tickets for them. They waited for me after the game and I went to dinner with them.

The Falcons had a big second half to beat the gang from Hudson High, 43-10.

Penn St. under Joe Paterno came to Colorado for Homecoming 1973. The Nittany Lions brought the eventual Heisman Trophy running back, John Cappelletti, and beat the Falcons 19-9.
