Professional Experience

2012 – 2018   New Mexico State University (Grants, NM), Information/Instructional Technology Director. University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library (Albuquerque, NM), Deputy Director for Operations and faculty appointment in School of Medicine.

Broad portfolio of technology and pedagogy support. Administered Learning Management System (Canvas), assisting instructors to design online courses and students develop online learning competencies. Directed vendor installation projects totaling more than $1M for “smart” classroom technology (Crestron controllers), an approved Pearson Vue Test Center, and successfully integrating a Simulation iQ health sciences simulation center (Education Management Solutions). With two collaborators, designed and delivered a six-week Massive Open Online Course (Canvas Network) to over 1,300 students in 67 countries. Co-chaired and participated on campus-wide IT service management teams that oversaw the IT ticketing system (Cherwell), Change Advisory Board, collaborative technologies initiatives (IM, video conferencing, file sharing), Help Desk, and student computing lab. Led design, execution, and data analysis for a two-week observational study of library patrons to determine future needs for space, services, and furnishings.

2009 – 2011   Personal ‘sabbatical’ to pursue personal passions (Santa Fe, NM).

Relocated to New Mexico and completed a master’s degree in educational psychology at University of New Mexico. Created 30,000-word online tutorial on the WordPress content management system for beginners. Studied the implications of neuroscience findings on personal learning. Self-published an eBook on language and its influence on thought and behavior. Gained Learning Management System (LMS) experience as a student.

2002 – 2008   Institute of General Semantics, Executive Director. Texas Christian University (TCU, Fort Worth, TX) Adjunct Instructor.

Led the revitalization of a long-standing educational nonprofit organization: effected a merger with a long-time competing organization; relocated the organizational headquarters from New York to Texas; directed a successful capital campaign; transformed the membership outreach, publishing, and accounting operations. Recruited to teach a general semantics course for the TCU Schieffer School of Journalism. For two years, selected as one of twelve community columnists for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. 

1982 – 2001   Texas Instruments, Inc./Raytheon Systems Company and Rockwell Collins, Inc. (Dallas, Texas), Project/Program Manager.

Key contributor for the TI/Martin (later Raytheon/Lockheed Martin) development program for Javelin, the U.S. Army’s next generation antitank missile system. Directed the earned value performance management system for $200M engineering development program. Managed the production proposal and served as negotiator for the initial contract, which has since grown to over $3B. Worked closely with a foreign government for a $50M military communications system.
